How The Union Works:

	In the United Steelworkers, you are the union! You and your coworkers will belong to a local union.
	You will make all decisions in the Local Union by a democratic vote.
	You will nominate and elect Local Union officers from among the members of your local.
	You will vote for District Directors and International Officers. The Steelworkers is one of the few major unions where members vote directly for the officers of the International Union.
	You will be part of a unit which will decide all affairs related to contract negotiations, grievances, arbitrations, labor/management meetings, and committee meetings.
	There will be a staff representative from your District Office to assist you in all matters that are important to your unit.
	Additionally, you can call for support from the various departments of the International Union to assist you in problems related to health and safety, pensions and insurance, research, education, communications, legal, and organizing.
